Advice regarding the recent national blood contamination testing
If you live in England, you are now able to order a free finger-prick test online from the NHS. After you have sent your blood sample, you will be contacted with your test result within two weeks.

If you test positive, an NHS health care professional will call you to discuss the result.

Our reception or clinical staff may offer you an appointment with one of several types of healthcare workers at the practice, or within our network, such as physiotherapists, mental health workers and link workers. We aim to offer you the most appropriate help for your specific need.
We are a teaching practice, so we have a variety of trainees at the practice, whom you may meet as a patient at Wincobank Medical Centre. You may also be asked to support them in their learning by talking about your health experiences and consenting to recordings of appointments for their assessments.
The practice is very busy and it can sometimes be difficult to get through to us. We are working hard to improve this, by developing our website and online services. We hope our website will guide you directly to the right service for your needs, which may mean bypassing the practice altogether at times.
We aspire to support our local community with a holistic approach to health and wellbeing, and work with local community organisations to achieve this. We form part of the Foundry Primary Care Network, a group of 8 local GP practices, who are working together to develop new services for the local population of 55 000 people. These practices include Sheffield Medical Centre, Burngreave Surgery, Forge Health group (formerly Pitsmoor Surgery & Flowers Medical Centre), Upwell Street Surgery, Firth Park Surgery, Page Hall Medical Centre, Wincobank Medical Centre and Southey Green Medical Centre.

In recognition of the barriers to healthcare access faced by people in vulnerable circumstances, including migrants, we commit to protecting the human right to health. We will take steps to ensure that everyone in our community may fulfill their entitlement to quality healthcare. In partnership with Doctors of the World UK, we will ensure that our practice offers a welcoming space for everyone who seeks to use our services. Mindful of our duties to uphold equality and human rights law, we will implement patient registration policies which do not discriminate based on race, gender, sexual orientation, immigration status or any other characteristic. Supported by the Safe Surgeries initiative, we will ensure that our staff understand the specific barriers faced by migrants in vulnerable circumstances and that they are empowered to mitigate these barriers, where possible. We will ensure that a lack of identification or proof of address, immigration status or language do not prevent patient registration. As a member of the Safe Surgeries community, we will endeavour to support other Safe Surgeries and, where appropriate, provide feedback to Doctors of the World UK to support the development of the network.
